DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE / FROM ONE PIECE

Turn an idea into a prototype you can evaluate.

Have an idea for an enclosure, power tool accessory or workshop fixture? CLMS provides mechanical design and prototype manufacture. We combine CAD, 3D printing, CNC machining and engraving, choosing the process for the function of each part.

Discuss your prototype

Send a description, photograph or sketch. Scope, price and timing are agreed before work begins.

Designed around your application

We work on small assemblies for businesses, contractors, repair workshops and people developing their own devices. Bring a finished drawing or a problem to solve. Together we establish whether you need a complete mechanical assembly, one part that fits existing equipment or modifications to a stock enclosure.

  • Electronics enclosures: space for a circuit board, display, connectors and mounting points.
  • Power tool accessories: attachments, guides, bases, mounts or stops.
  • Workstation fixtures: positioning, support and repeatable workpiece location.

Feasibility and requirements are checked for each project. A brand name alone does not establish compatibility.

Several materials can serve one design

A printed body can be combined with a machined panel, metal fastening parts and engraved labels. Possible materials include aluminium, POM, PE500, PE1000, polycarbonate, PMMA and suitable 3D printing materials. Selection depends on loads, friction, temperature, environment and assembly. We confirm the material and process in the quote; different plastics are not assumed to offer the same properties.

How does a commission work?

  1. The task and conditions

Describe the purpose, size limits, mating components and quantity. Explain what needs improving in the current solution and what the new design must achieve.

  2. Design scope and quote

We agree the CAD work, material, manufacturing process and assessment method. The quote defines the work, price, timing and revisions. Design begins after the terms are agreed.

  3. Manufacture and assessment

We make the agreed prototype and check the specified features. Where user trials are included, we collect the findings. The next version or batch is quoted using what has been learned.

No CAD file? Start with a photograph.

A description, photos and basic dimensions are enough for the first discussion. Include STEP or DXF files or a dimensioned sketch if available. For an enclosure, show the electronics, connectors and controls. For an accessory, give the exact power tool model, mounting arrangement and the interface between parts. Add quantity, your required date and destination country.

Know which stage you are commissioning

We distinguish design work from manufacture and any later iterations. Documentation, file formats, assembly and trials follow the agreed quotation. A prototype is not automatically a finished product ready for sale. If further testing or production preparation is required, that is a separate stage to agree.

An accessory idea that other users may need?

First Prototype is a separate programme for selected new power tool accessories. CLMS may fund design and one trial piece after assessment and agreement on scope. A standard prototyping enquiry receives an individual quotation.

Questions about prototype manufacture

Can I order just one prototype?

Yes. We accept enquiries for individual prototypes and short runs. Cost depends on the design, preparation, material, machining and agreed checks.

Do I need to choose between 3D printing and CNC?

No. Describe the result and operating conditions. We suggest a process or combination of processes suited to the individual parts.

Can I send my own components?

Yes, by prior arrangement. First we establish what is needed for measurement or assembly, then agree shipping and return. Please do not send parts before confirmation.
