MECHANICAL ENGRAVING / CNC
Lettering and scales cut into the material.
CLMS provides mechanical CNC engraving on panels and parts. A cutting tool removes material to form recessed lettering, graduations, symbols or outlines. Commission engraving alone, or combine it with the design and manufacture of a complete panel, fixture or enclosure component.

What can you commission?
We make control panel lettering, symbols beside buttons and connectors, graduations and position markings on fixtures. Graphic and logo outlines can also be machined where their detail suits the selected cutter. We accept one-off parts and short runs with a repeated layout or changing content.
Material, geometry and legibility
Include the material and thickness in your enquiry. We assess aluminium panels, engraving laminates and suitable plastics, including PMMA. The cutter, layout and machining parameters are chosen for the part. Character size, line width, depth and finish are agreed after reviewing the design and, where needed, a trial. Fine artwork may need simplifying for machining.
Mechanical or laser engraving?
CNC engraving uses a cutting tool in contact with the workpiece. It creates a physical recess but needs tool access and secure workholding. Laser marking produces different results depending on the substrate and coating. Describe the desired result: recessed lettering, a readable marking or a small code. We can help select the method.
What do we need for a quote?
Send the text, engraving area, quantity and a photograph of the part. Include a DXF, SVG or PDF layout and a reference dimension if available. For a scale, specify range, spacing, units and position relative to mating parts. Identify the visible face, holes and areas that must remain untouched. This helps us assess machining and workholding.
From layout to manufacture
You approve the content and layout before work starts. The quote defines material, operations, quantity, price and timing. Panel machining, engraving and any agreed trial can form a single commission. For your own item, arrange acceptance and transport before sending it to the workshop.
Questions about mechanical engraving
Can you engrave an existing part?
Yes, provided the material, shape and workholding allow it. Photos, dimensions and coating details help us assess this before shipment.
Can I order a panel with holes and labels?
Yes. Panel machining and engraved identification can be combined in one job. We agree hole positions, lettering, material and mounting.
Is an engraved scale a calibrated measuring scale?
The intended use and required accuracy are agreed before quotation. Engraved graduations alone do not imply calibration or verified measuring-instrument performance.
