CLMS / DESIGN & MANUFACTURE
Custom drilling and routing templates
Avoid marking out every workpiece again. We design drilling or routing templates with the required pattern, locating points and fixings. Describe the part, power tool and operation so we can propose the design and manufacture.
Describe your custom templateDescribe the task and tell us the equipment model. No technical drawing is needed. Sending an enquiry is free and does not place an order.
Less measuring, easier positioning
For hinges, locks and repeated pockets, the template outline is only part of the job. Support, quick positioning and secure workholding matter too. We design the complete fixture, including arrangements for several workpiece sizes or machining stages.
A CNC-machined aluminium base can work with replaceable inserts, steel clamps and engineering-plastic components. POM, PET or PA6 are selected by function. Clear acrylic PMMA or polycarbonate PC can provide a view of the setup. Construction is specified for the repetition count and the material you machine.
01 / THE NEED
Which jobs could a fixture help with?
- A drilling template that locates a repeated hole pattern, with workpiece support and mounting.
- An adjustable template for hinges, locks, hardware or a series of pockets.
- A fixture with interchangeable inserts for several outlines or workpiece sizes.
- A locating base, stops and clamps combined into one routing arrangement.
- A contour-copying template designed around the cutter or guide bush.
02 / THE FIT
Tell us how you do the job now
Show the workpiece and explain which operation you repeat. A photo or simple sketch is enough to start.
- A photo or sketch of the workpiece, marking the area to be machined.
- Dimensions, spacing and the surface used as a positioning reference.
- Tool model and cutter, guide bush or drill dimensions, where relevant.
- How the workpiece is held and the space available for clamps.
- Repetition count, workpiece material and the result you need.
Designed around your cutter and guiding method
The cutter, guide-bush or bearing diameter determines the template geometry. We design around the accessories you actually use. Send the router model and the hardware or workpiece so we can specify locating and clamping.
Before manufacture we agree a workpiece trial, clamp access and support requirements. The design accounts for the tool’s required guards and protective functions.
How we select materials for your project ↗BUILDING THE RANGE WITH CUSTOMERS
A first design that could help other users too?
Selected first designs may qualify for our catalogue development programme. Participation and scope require prior agreement with CLMS. Submitting a request does not grant a free prototype — read the terms and describe your need.
Before you send a request
Do I need a technical drawing?
No. Begin with a photo, sketch or description. Once we understand the operation, we will ask for missing dimensions and discuss whether direct measurement or a sample workpiece is needed.
Can one template support several spacings?
Sometimes. List all the variants at the start. We will assess whether one combined template remains clear and stiff enough, or whether simpler separate pieces make more sense.
What determines the cost?
Design, measurement, the number of components, material and the required trial. Tell us the repetition count too: a one-off installation may need a different solution from daily production work.
Tell us the task. We will handle the design.
Send a description and a photo if you have one. You will receive the proposed solution, scope and price before work starts.
